You’re Number One
Hi, welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of your feet. Let’s chat.
So who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
I’m Michael, living in West Palm Beach, Fl, originally from Dublin, born in Singapore, is that enough?
Can I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
Pale ale and plenty of it.
Would you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
You must be joking.
So, if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
Slowly awakening from a long sleep into the amazing possibility that the kingdom appeared while I was unconscious and I’m not sure what it all means.
Are you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of how you got involved?
More of an observer, really, happened to get involved by virtue of the fact that I was captivated by a mystery that left me groping for the door.
What do you value most about being part of it?
Belonging to a kingdom of love.
What excites you most about it?
The poor hearing good news and the last turning up first.
Has anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect?
What did they say?
What’s all this about then?
Three words that describe your attitude to ‘being church’ in the big wide world: You must be joking.
Three words that DON’T:
Different. Special. Exclusive.
You have this weird dream – you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?
You’re number one.
What’s the big secret you’re itching to share with everyone?
The kingdom has arrived.
What would your ’emerging church survival kit’ contain?
Basement tapes by Dylan, map of the world, my library of books and a dandelion.
Anything else you’d like to share with us before you have to rush off?
You can’t get there from here, so don’t bother rushing.
Thanks. Good to see you. Have a good day!
