Trying to shake off a lifetime of what Church looks like

Hi, welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of your feet. Let’s chat.

So who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
Aaron Hilton, Central coast of California, I am a father and a husband. I am also a student. I fellowship with an intimate small ( on the verge of too big) group of believers in a house. I am in the process of opening my home to a spin off of this group

Can I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
To be honest I would be most comfortable with a beer.

Would you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
No thanks. How about some nuts.

So, if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
A close, loving, intimate group that is trying to shake off a life time of what Church “looks” like.

Are you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of how you got involved?
I am fairly new to alternative Church but not to alternative thought. I have really caught the vision and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me and His Church.

What do you value most about being part of it?
The relationships have forced me to be real, I can no longer just go to church I must show up.

What excites you most about it?
The potential to see people who have been turned off by conventional church reached.

Has anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect?
What did they say?

People want to know “who’s in charge”.

Three words that describe your attitude to ‘being church’ in the big wide world: Spirit..lead me.

Three words that DON’T:
How its done

You have this weird dream – you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?

I’ve just past a man and averted my eyes so that I wouldn’t have to notice that he looked cold and hungry and needy. Jesus appears, looks at me and slowly shakes his head then walks past me and sits down and shares his lunch with the man.

What’s the big secret you’re itching to share with everyone?
Church happens!! There is no need for a slick program or a practised sermon just believers meeting to seek God.

What would your ’emerging church survival kit’ contain?
The Bible…..That’s about it (maybe a snack or two)

Anything else you’d like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Seek to know God. The rest will work out.

Thanks. Good to see you. Have a good day!
