Sick of convention
Hi, welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of your feet. Let’s chat.
So who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
Wendy, Newtownabbey Belfast, I think, try to become wholistically healthier, read a little, scribble a lot and help train teachers.
Can I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
Would you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
I’ll pass, I’ve already eaten four biscuits and two chocolates today, thanks though.
So, if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
A community of active and hopeful believers dissatisfied with convention and aspiring to be free.
Are you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of how you got involved?
What excites you most about it?
I can believe there is an Other and my faith soars. In the space for and expression of worship my truth and my hope are sure.
Three words that describe your attitude to ‘being church’ in the big wide world: Transparent. Spiritual. Serving.
Three words that DON’T:
You have this weird dream – you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?
In a little circular chapel in corrymeela ballycastle.
‘Look me in the eye.’
What’s the big secret you’re itching to share with everyone?
I’m tired wrestling.
What would your ’emerging church survival kit’ contain?
Air and space.
Anything else you’d like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Haven’t gotten very far but this has been a nice introduction. Thanks.
Thanks. Good to see you, have a good day!
