Involved, relevant, fresh

Darren Owens  stumbles into the coffee shop

Hi, welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of your feet. Let’s chat.

So who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
Darren hailing from Bradford and I sell quality cleaning appliances [or washing machines if you want to be boring 🙂 ]

Can I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
A pint of Landlord please.

Would you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
A Cinnamon doughnut please.

So, if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
Worshipping with friends.

Are you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of how you got involved?
Could be described as an instigator, could also have been “volunteered”, and a fair bit of stumbling was involved.

What do you value most about being part of it?
Friends, and a space where I can feel involved/challenged/relaxed/ far too busy for my own good/far too chilled out for my own good, basically a place where I can do my worship justice.

What excites you most about it?
See answer above.

Has anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect?
What did they say?

Err yes, couple of hundred to one service! [one of our members was being accredited as a methodist local preacher] and most people seem to see the value of it even if its not for them, don’t think anyone has ever pulled us apart to our “faces”, but then we would never expect a service thats culturally relevant to us be relevant to everybody.

Three words that describe your attitude to ‘being church’ in the big wide world: Involved, relevant, fresh.

Three words that DON’T:
Preaching, unchanged, dull.

You have this weird dream – you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?

Anywhere the park, work, travelling, at home… ~ “Welcome…”

What’s the big secret you’re itching to share with everyone?
Don’t overload the sockets!

What would your ’emerging church survival kit’ contain?
Tea lights, bowl of water, Bible.

Anything else you’d like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Well I’ve not touched my doughnut you can have that if you like

Thanks. Good to see you. Have a good day!
