This then is a constantly evolving collection of recommended stories and reflections for if you're wanting to get a quick picture of what the emerging church is all about. What is Dream?… Dream is a living community of people who are on a journey together of discovering Jesus Christ and growing to know him, but whose experience of church may have been more of an obstacle than help. We seek to re-imagine church through a network of local 'Dream' groups and a web forum, facilitating creative worship, open discussion and mutual support. We believe that this journey of faith can be joined by all who want to engage with God, and that 'church' should be a place of honest exploration, centred on Jesus and his involvement in our lives.…

Reflection

Making disciples – the messy reality!

What a mess I’ve made of this discipleship thing! On the basis that failure often unlocks learning I've reflected on aspects of my experience. I respectfully suggest that many approaches to discipleship for young people need to move beyond the paradigms of ‘quick fix steps to successful victorious Christian living’ and into the arena of working at the transformation of the messy realms of reality. Three young people I worked with became Christians, I was thrilled and as I carved another notch in my bible I bathed in the knowledge of heavenly parties! The trouble started a few years later…

Burn your bridges

Lately I have been wondering if we will be a real church?... Our ‘church planting’ adventure has entered a new phase with our family this week moving into the community we are going to be a part of and beginning to grapple with what it means to be missionaries in this place. . During the week I also had two conversations with other local Christian groups that unsettled me, as they reminded me again of the shape we may be ‘expected’ to take as a church.
