Making disciples – the messy reality!

What a mess I’ve made of this discipleship thing! On the basis that failure often unlocks learning I've reflected on aspects of my experience. I respectfully suggest that many approaches to discipleship for young people need to move beyond the paradigms of ‘quick fix steps to successful victorious Christian living’ and into the arena of working at the transformation of the messy realms of reality. Three young people I worked with became Christians, I was thrilled and as I carved another notch in my bible I bathed in the knowledge of heavenly parties! The trouble started a few years later…

Burn your bridges

Lately I have been wondering if we will be a real church?... Our ‘church planting’ adventure has entered a new phase with our family this week moving into the community we are going to be a part of and beginning to grapple with what it means to be missionaries in this place. . During the week I also had two conversations with other local Christian groups that unsettled me, as they reminded me again of the shape we may be ‘expected’ to take as a church. Mootstory

Moot began in January 2003 as 15 people from all over London, some who have been involved in alternative worship and other experimental forms of being church. We gathered at an old Church called St Matthews Westminster with a large sheet and a projector. From then til now we have been developing as a new emerging church spiritual community doing sundays evening alternative worship services and discussions during the week. We are now about 30 people and continuing to develop as a community. We are exploring ways of supporting one another and exploring how you do worship, mission and community…
