A tin hat and prayer support network

Hi, welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of your feet. Let’s chat.

So who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
I’m Tim Moore and I’m living in North Derbyshire, near Buxton. I’m a student at Cliff College, an evangelical Methodist college.

Can I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
No beer – please! A black coffee would be great.

Would you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
A Danish please

So, if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
A sort of hybrid cell church thingy

Are you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of how you got involved?
The old Methodist church in Chinley had to close down due to building problems and the minister asked us to pick up the work and do something a bit different – so we did. I suppose I’m an instigator, but I’m not sure I’d classify us as emerging, but we are up for anything!

What do you value most about being part of it?
Seeing a small group grow spiritually and numerically – experiencing freedom.

What excites you most about it?
Seeing people who would probably not go to church enjoying themselves in God’s presence.

Has anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect? What did they say?
Not yet, but we’ve just posted a web site, so you just don’t know.

Three words that describe your attitude to ‘being church’ in the big wide world: ground-breaking. missionary. scary

Three words that DON’T:
traditional. dull. restrained (I think)

You have this weird dream – you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?

It’s in the High street and he approaches me and starts to talk to me as if he’s always known me. He just starts this conversation and goes straight in and says, “have you tried doing church like this…?”

What’s the big secret you’re itching to share with everyone?
That meeting Jesus is life-changing, not negative

What would your ’emerging church survival kit’ contain?
My wife says, “a tin hat and a prayer support network”. (We’ve just had a bit of a do with some of the members of solid church who don’t understand what we’re doing).

Anything else you’d like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Haven’t gotten very far but this has been a nice introduction. Thanks.

Thanks. Good to see you, have a good day!
