Amanda [Washington
US] isn't alone.
[01.06]
Hi,
welcome to our virtual coffee shop. Pull up a chair, take the load of
your feet. Let's chat.
So
who are you, where you from, what do you do in life?
My name’s
Amanda… I’m from Washington and currently I’m a student although I’m taking
a year off to work in the city on the East coast to work with the urban
poor.
Can
I get you a drink? Cappucino, earl grey, dandelion and burdock, pale ale?
I’m a tea drinker… Green tea would be appreciated.
Would
you like a doughnut or pastry to go with that?
No I’ll pass for now… I might come back for something to nibble on in
a bit.
So,
if you had to describe the church/project/experiment/thingy you are currently
involved with in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
This movement is an opportunity for people to take a look at the word
of Jesus and apply it to today instead of waiting until death to find
out what the kingdom of heaven is.
Are
you an instigator? / new recruit? / have absolutely no recollection of
how you got involved?
I’d say I’m an instigator, although I have never been given any official
title.
What
do you value most about being part of it?
I enjoy finally knowing I’m not the only one questioning the main church
and knowing I’m apart of something that has the power to make a great
amount of change to start rebuilding in this world and maybe, finally
making it a better place.
What excites you most about it?
Finally having some sort of support group to help share the ideas I’ve
had for years, but never had the ability to apply a solid term to describe
what I’ve been thinking. I’m excited to start seeing change.
Has
anyone ever turned up out of the blue not knowing what to expect? What
did they say?
Hallelujah! A lot of people are excited to know they haven’t been alone.
Three
words that describe your attitude to 'being church' in the big wide world:
I’m not really sure what this is referring to. Maybe how I
show my faith? compassion, servitude and kindness.
Three
words that DON'T:
Judgement, close-minded,
You
have this weird dream - you meet Jesus face to face.
Where does it happen, what does he say to you?
I’d probably see him on the streets, maybe in form of a bum or small child,
and he would tell me this is how it’s supposed to be.
What's
the big secret you're itching to share with everyone?
Maybe they’ve had it wrong for way too long. And it’s up to us to make
it right again.
What
would your 'emerging church survival kit' contain?
My bible, attire that will keep through a variety of conditions, Everything
Must Change by Brian Mclaren (Which if you haven’t read you need to) and
probably a hair tie. Maybe a football.
Anything
else you'd like to share with us before you have to rush off?
Go read that book… It’s an eye opener.
Oh... and I’ll take
a bagel with cream cheese on the way out :]
Thanks.
Good to see you, have a good day!
